Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Britain would leave the European Union on January 31 after his sweeping election win.

"We will get Brexit done on time by the 31st of January, no ifs, no buts, no maybes," Johnson told cheering supporters on Friday (December 13).

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservatives have won an outright majority in parliament, according to a tally of seats won so far by broadcaster ITV.

By early Friday morning, the Conservatives had secured 364 of the 650 seats in the House of Parliament, well ahead of Labour's 203 seats.

The Liberal Democrats have 11 seats, while the Scottish National Party posted big gains in Scotland, with 48 seats.

That would give Johnson a comfortable majority in the House of Commons and paves the way for Brexit to take place at the end of January.
