NDO – The 14th ASEAN GO-NGO Forum on Social Welfare and Development, themed “Strengthening Social Protection for Vulnerable Children in ASEAN”, took place in Vientiane, Laos, on November 18, within the framework of the 10th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) and related meetings.

■ The 23rd Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Ministerial Conference was held on November 17-18 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, under the theme “Greater Integration, Inclusivity and Sustainability in the GMS.”

■ Statistics from the Republic of Korea government show that by the end of October 2019, the country’s trade deficit with Japan stood at US$16.36 billion, down 20.6% compared to the same period last year.

■ According to Xinhua News Agency, 16 people were trapped in a coal mine gas explosion in Pingyao county in North China’s Shanxi province. Preliminary investigation showed that 34 miners were working underground in the coal mine when the blast happened.

■ A suspension bridge collapsed into a river in southwestern France on Monday, killing at least one person.

■ Four Egyptian workers were killed on Sunday when an electricity transmission tower collapsed in Giza province, southwest of Cairo, as released by the Egyptian health ministry.

■ The Japan Meteorological Agency has raised the alert level for Mount Shinmoe volcano in southern Japan amid the increasing seismic activity in the area.
