French President Emmanuel Macron, western leaders and veteran soldiers gathered on Thursday (June 6) in Normandy, north France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings that helped defeat Nazi forces in World War II.

* The Russian economy has entered a trajectory of sustainable growth as a result of an improving economic environment and the implementation of strategic national projects, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

* Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Thursday called for a massive event on the weekend "in defense of the country's dignity" and in favor of friendship with the United States amid tariff threats from Washington.

* Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will travel to Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe next week for the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Tasnim news agency reported Thursday. * Russia will not unilaterally extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with the United States, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday. Putin said that even without the extension of the treaty, Russia has the newest weapons that will guarantee its security.

* Visiting Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri on Thursday expressed confidence about the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) signing a free trade agreement with the European Union (EU).

* The Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) should develop a working mechanism to implement ceasefire in eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas by June 19, Ukrainian envoy to the TCG Leonid Kuchma said on Thursday.

* The heads of border services of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held their 7th meeting on Thursday in Tashkent, the organization said in a statement.

* At least 16 people died in heavy intensity dust-storm and rains, coupled with lightening, that hit some parts of India's northern state Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening, local media reports said Friday (June 7).

* The Libyan navy said on Thursday that 82 migrants of different African nationalities were rescued off the country's western coast.

* Following a meeting with the newly-appointed royal informants, King Philippe of Belgium decided to extend the deadline of the mission to form a federal government on Monday 17 June, according to a royal communiqué released on Thursday.

* Afghan security forces have managed to retake the volatile district of Khawja Omari from Taliban militants in eastern Ghazni province, a local source said Friday.
