Top leader extends greetings on Lunar New Year 2021

On the verge of the Lunar New Year 2021, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his best wishes to all Vietnamese people, both throughout the country and abroad.

He wished all compatriots, comrades, families and every Vietnamese person a new year of good health, joy, happiness and success!

He hopes the entire Party, people and army will continue to uphold the spirit of patriotism and solidarity, while promoting the will, determination and achievements of 2020 to implement set objectives and tasks and win new, tremendous and more glorious victories in the cause of building and defending our socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Vietnam welcomes Lunar New Year with slimmed-down celebrations amid Covid-19

Vietnamese people marked the arrival of the year of the buffalo with more restrained celebrations as restrictions were put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

In Hanoi, fireworks lit up the sky over Thong Nhat Park, the only site with a pyrotechnic show, scaled down from the original plan of 30 sites in order to avoid large crowds gethering.

Like in Hanoi and elsewhere across Vietnam, fireworks and public activities to ring in the Lunar New Year were cancelled, so many people decided to spend their time with their families at home and wished for a peaceful and more prosperous new year.

PM requests the purchase of COVID-19 vaccine in February

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered the health sector to conduct all necessary measures to make COVID-19 vaccines available in Vietnam this month either via direct purchase or from UN organisations.

He made the request while chairing a meeting of permanent Government members on pandemic prevention and control work in Hanoi on February 15, in response to complicated developments recorded in several localities nationwide.

The PM also required the acceleration of the research and production efforts on a domestic vaccine.

He delegated the Health Ministry to devise options, partners and imported vaccines; identify priority subjects for vaccination; and coordinate with the Finance Ministry in arranging the necessary financial resources.

Social distancing will be applied across the northern province of Hai Duong as from 0:00 on February 16 or the fifth day of the Lunar New Year.

Accordingly, local residents have been instructed to stay at home and should only go out in case of necessity, such as buying food, medicine, or in emergencies.

As of 16:00 on February 14, Hai Duong had reported 461 COVID-19 cases. After the pandemic broke out in Chi Linh city, it spread into 11 out of 12 cities, towns and districts in the province. The competent forces have detected 13,821 F1 cases and 56,661 F2 cases.

Agro-forestry-fishery export revenue estimated at US$3.49 billion in January

Export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products was estimated to have reached US$3.49 billion in January 2021, up 27.1% compared to the same period in 2020, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In January, Vietnam imported nearly US$2.97 billion worth of agricultural products, up 47.2% compared to the same period in 2020.

Vietnam records 2,271 COVID cases in 13 provinces

Two cases of COVID-19 were detected over the past 12 hours to 6am February 16, raising the national count to 2,271, of which 1,372 were locally transmitted, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said among the 13 cities and provinces affected by the latest outbreak so far, the number of new cases has been decreasing in 12 localities except for Hai Duong, hence the imposition of social distancing in the province.

Hanoi has also ordered the temporary shut-down of sidewalk food, tea and coffee stalls as of 0am February 16. Relic sites in the city have also been closed after large numbers of people flocked to the sites during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Viettel participates in global aerospace supply chain
