International organisations hail Vietnam’s fight against COVID-19

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC) spoke highly of Vietnam’s performance in preventing and combating the acute respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

Vietnam has worked out measures and learned from experience to make appropriate adjustments during the process of fighting the COVID-19 epidemic.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also decided to remove Vietnam from the list of destinations vulnerable to community transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

Vietnam posts US$100 million trade surplus in February

Vietnam is enjoying an estimated US$100 million trade surplus for February despite the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The surplus is due to Samsung’s export of their new phone, the Galaxy S20, during the month.

In February, Vietnam reported US$18.6 billion worth of export revenue, up 1.5% over the previous month and up 34% over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, import revenue in February was posted at US$18.5 billion, down 0.5% over the previous month but up 26% over the same period last year.

2020 Youth Month activities launched nationwide

Various practical activities are being held with the participation of youngsters nationwide in response to the 2020 Youth Month programme, which falls in March each year.

Various specific activities are to be carried out throughout the month.

Google Doodle honours Vietnamese ‘ca tru’

Google Doodle, a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepage celebrated Vietnamese Ca Tru (ceremonial singing)’s Founders Commemoration Day (February 23).

The Doodle was illustrated by Ho Chi Minh City-based artist Xuan Le.

Ca tru, the genre widely considered to be Vietnam’s most revered traditional form of music, was inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009.

Vietnam Art Photography Contest 2020 launched

The 2020 Vietnam Art Photography Contest and Exhibition was officially launched by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The contest was launched for professional and amateur Vietnamese photographers aged 18 and over who are living at home or abroad.

Entries for the contest should be photos in the categories real and idea.

Track for Vietnam F1 Grand Prix completed

The Hanoi Street Circuit has a total length of approximately 5.6 kilometres with 23 turning corners.

The track for Vietnam’s inaugural Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix, scheduled to take place in Hanoi on April 5, has been completed after over 11 months of construction.

The Hanoi Street Circuit has a total length of approximately 5.6 kilometres with 23 corners, including available street sections and newly built ones.

The track was co-designed by F1’s Motorsports team and Germany company Tilke to meet the high standards of an F1 race.

Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City named in top 25 trending destinations for 2020

Vietnam’s central coastal city of Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City were both named among the top 25 trending destinations in the world for 2020 by the world’s largest travel platform TripAdvisor.

Ranked seventh in the list, Da Nang City is described as laid-back and friendly. According to the website, culinary tours are a hugely popular way to experience the literal flavour of Da Nang.

It also recommends for tourists to stuff themselves with bold noodle soups and savoury street foods and explore the limestone caves and Buddhist grottos of the Marble Mountains.

Meanwhile, in the 12th place, Ho Chi Minh City is praised for its charming French colonial architecture and wide boulevards.
