PM pays official visit to Czech Republic

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid an official visit to the Czech Republic from April 16-18, at the invitation of his Czech counterpart Andrej Babis.

During his visit, the Vietnamese PM held talks with senior leaders of the Czech Republic and witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between the two countries and between their enterprises.

The visit aims to deepen the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, creating a driving force to promote bilateral comprehensive cooperation in all fields.

Dong Thap, Vinh Long export first batches of mangoes to the US

The first batches of mangoes, grown by local cooperatives in Dong Thap and Vinh Long, were exported to the US on April 18 and 19 as the result of negotiations between Vietnam and the US over the past 10 years.

Mango is the sixth fruit of Vietnam allowed to enter the US market, following dragon fruit, rambutan, longan, lychee and star apple. With mango receiving an export license, Vietnamese fruits have increasingly affirmed their position in the world market thanks to their high quality, competitive prices and the participation of businesses in global supply chains.

Binh Thuan puts VND2.3 trillion international port into operation

The VND2.3 trillion (US$98.9 million) Vinh Tan International Port was officially put into operation in the central province of Binh Thuan on April 20.

The port, invested in by Vinh Tan International Port JSC, a member of Pacific Corporation, covers more than 140 hectares in Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, featuring one 3,000 DWT terminal and two 50,000 DWT terminals, with one 70,000 DWT terminal to be constructed in the future.

The port is expected to contribute to attracting investment, meeting the goods import-export demand of businesses in Binh Thuan and neighbouring provinces, increasing budget revenues for the locality, and generating more jobs for local labourers.

Bien Hoa airport dioxin cleanup project launched

A US-funded project on the remediation of dioxin contamination at Bien Hoa airport in the southern province of Dong Nai was launched on April 20.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) committed a funding of USS$183 million to the project, which is scheduled to last for 10 years using the remediation methods used at Da Nang airport.

Bien Hoa airport is one of the areas with the most serious dioxin contamination, as its 52 hectares, with over 500,000 cubic metres of soil, need to be cleansed. Vietnamese and US agencies estimate that the workload will cost over US$390 million.

First heat wave hits three regions with temperature over 40C

The first heat wave of 2019 has spread across three regions of Vietnam since April 18, with highest temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius. Notably, some places in the North and Central Vietnam recorded highest temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius.

The wide-spread heat wave is expected to last until April 22 in the Northern and Central provinces and longer in the Northwest, the western mountainous areas of the North Central region, and Central and South-Central provinces.

South Vietnam will face hot weather until April 24, with highest temperatures of 35-36 degrees Celsius.

Winners of Dedication Music Awards honoured

The winners of the 14th Dedication Music Awards were officially announced and honoured at a ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 16. They were chosen by nearly 100 art and culture reporters and journalists from across the country.

Dong Nhi was honoured with the ‘Singer of the Year’ award for her impressive activities in 2018. Meanwhile, Vu Cat Tuong received the ‘Musician of the Year’ award for her outstanding achievements in composition last year.

The ‘Best Song of the Year’ title went to ‘Co ai thuong em nhu anh’ (Anyone love me like you) by singer Toc Tien, while the album ‘Chat with Mozart II’ by My Linh won the ‘Best Album of the Year’ award.

The awards for ‘New Artist of the Year’ and ‘Producer of the Year’ were given to musician and singer Bui Lan Huong and young musician Tien Cookie, respectively.

F1 Vietnam Grand Prix kick-off event launched at My Dinh Stadium

The F1 Vietnam Grand Prix kick-off event was officially launched at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on April 20, attracting tens of thousands of people.

The event offered spectators live performances of F1 cars on the racetrack that will become part of the official race scheduled for 2020. The audience also had the chance to meet legendary F1 driver David Coulthard from the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Team, who’s won 13 Grand Prix races.

Ticket sales for the 2020 race in Vietnam were announced with the offer of more than 5,500 tickets in addition to promotional activities.
