PM Phuc attends WEF Davos 2019 in Switzerland

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid an official visit to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2019 in Davos at the invitation of WEF Founder and Executive Chairman, Klaus Schwab.

On the sidelines of the WEF Davos 2019, the Vietnamese leader joined a particular dialogue with WEF President Borge Brende as well as had a meeting with Swiss President Ueli Maurer and his counterparts from the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and the Czech Republic, Andrej Babis.

PM Phuc also had working sessions with former WEF Managing Director Philipp Rösler and leading investors from Switzerland, along with executives of leading international groups in finance and infrastructure such as Visa, Generali, Bank Julius Baer, and the Development Bank of Japan.

Nhan Dan Newspaper wins prizes at Party-building awards

Journalists from Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper won an A prize, a C prize and a consolation prize at the 2018 National Press Awards on Party building (Golden Hammer & Sickle Awards).

Nhan Dan Newspaper’s A prize belongs to a series of articles published in its Thoi Nay publication on creating a crop of young cadres in Hanoi.

This year’s awards went to the 56 most outstanding submissions, including four A prizes, ten B prizes, 15 C prizes and 25 consolation prizes, as well as two prizes for an elderly writer and a group of young writers.

Party and State leaders present Tet gifts to needy people

Party and State leaders visited and presented gifts to policy beneficiary families and needy households around the country for the occasion of the approaching Tet (Lunar New Year).

They also shared joy with workers living in difficult circumstances who do not go home during Tet, and their families.

Highway connecting two northern expressways inaugurated

The 48-kilometre motorway that connects the Hanoi-Hai Phong and Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Expressways was inaugurated on January26.

The VND3 trillion (US$129 million) project consists of two road sections in Hung Yen and Ha Nam provinces and the 2.1-kilometre long Hung Ha Bridge, which crosses the Red River and links the two neighbouring provinces.

Hanoi Spring Press Festival opens

The 2019 Hanoi Spring Press Festival is taking place at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace, featuring 25 pavilions by numerous central and local press agencies in the city.

The publications, including magazines, printed and pictorial editions, audio and television products and online newspapers, are presented vividly with diverse contents.

Vietnam’s Asian Cup run ends as Japan takes VAR penalty to advance

Vietnam could not advance to the semifinals at the 2019 Asian Cup after suffering a regrettable 0-1 defeat against powerhouse Japan in a thrilling last eight clash, which saw the Samurai Blue needing a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) penalty to score the solitary goal.

The VAR denied Japan an opener in the first half, but benefited them after the interval as the four-time champions remained on track for a record fifth Asian Cup trophy.
