Vietnam rings in 2019 with festive atmosphere

Millions of people throughout the country enjoyed firework shows and entertainment activities to welcome the New Year 2019.

Also on the first day of the year 2019, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and many other localities held ceremonies to welcome first international visitors in the New Year.

The 41st session of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee was held in Hanoi on January 6, under the co-chair of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith.

Both sides reviewed the outcomes of cooperation between the two governments in 2018 as well as discussed cooperation orientations for 2019, which lay the focus on collaboration across the fields of politics, foreign affairs, defence, and security.

On the occasion, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Chairwoman of National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hosted receptions for the Lao PM.

Ceremony observes 40 years since the victory of the Southwest border defence war and over genocide

A ceremony was held in Hanoi on January 4 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the victory of Vietnam’s Southwest border defence war and the joint victory of Vietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime (January 7, 1979-2019).

The historic victory on January 7, 1979, was a common triumph of the Vietnamese and Cambodian peoples, as well as that of progressive humanity around the world.

As for Vietnam, the victory of the Southwest border defence war affirmed the strong will and bravery of the Vietnamese people, while demonstrating noble international spirit.

Vietnamese seaports welcome first shipments of New Year 2019

A series of ports from the North to the South received their first shipments of the New Year 2019 on January 1.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration has set the target of clearing about 640 million tonnes of goods in 2019, including over 190 million tonnes of containers.

National Tourism Year 2019 launches in Khanh Hoa

The National Tourism Year 2019, under the theme ‘Nha Trang - ‘Colour of the Sea’, was officially launched in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province.

During the year, hundreds of cultural, sports and tourism events, as well as seminars, will be organised, and are expected to attract numerous domestic and international tourists.

Asian Cup 2019 opens in UAE

The biggest Asian Cup in history has begun, with an impressive opening ceremony at Zayed Sports City Stadium, in Abu Dhabi, the UAE on January 5.

The Vietnamese national squad arrived in the UAE to prepare for the opening match against Iraq on January 8 and the second against Iran at Al Nahyan Stadium four days later.
