Prime Minister’s trip to Japan a success

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s attendance at the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit and overall visit to Japan from October 8-10 has been a resounding success, contributing to enhancing political trust and friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

The two sides have agreed to cooperate closely with each other in order to deepen their extensive strategic partnership across many fields.

They will also join hands at international forums, for the sake of each country, and for peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world alike.

PM concludes trip to attend ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering, Indonesia visit

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc wrapped up his trip to attend the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering on the occasion of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) and his working visit to Indonesia from October 11-12.

The PM’s trip affirmed that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of ASEAN and demonstrates the importance that Vietnam attaches to the world’s largest multilateral institutions as well as the strategic partnership with Indonesia, thereby helping to promote Vietnam’s position in the region and the world.

It is also an illustration of Vietnam’s high regard for the archipelago nation’s role and standing in the region and the world, as well as the wish to coordinate closely with Indonesia and other countries in building a Southeast Asian region of peace, stability, unity, prosperous development and sustainable development.

NA Chairwoman wraps up trip to attend MSEAP 3, Turkey visit

National Assembly Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, concluded her trip to attend the third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments (MSEAP 3) and her official visit to Turkey from October 7-12.

NA Chairwoman Ngan’s working trip clearly demonstrated Vietnam’s viewpoint of wishing to be a sincere friend and reliable partner of all countries in the world, as well as to enhance the effective cooperation between the Vietnamese NA and other countries’ parliaments in the region.

Her official visit to Turkey was of important significance, helping to consolidate and further strengthen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey.

Vietnam attends 17th Francophonie Summit in Armenia

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 17th Summit of the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF) in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, on October 11-12.

The event was themed “Living together in solidarity, sharing humanistic values and respect for diversity: a source of peace and prosperity in La Francophonie”.

During the event, Vietnam reiterated its commitments to multilateralism as well as multilateral diplomacy, especially in its role as a key OIF member in the Asia-Pacific.

World’s most premier rice conference opens in Hanoi

The 10th The Rice Trader (TRT) World Rice Conference, the world’s most premier conference focused solely on the rice trade, was opened in Hanoi on October 11.

With a message of “investing in the rice sector in future”, delegates discussed global trends on rice production and trade in 2018 and the following years, shared experience in producing rice sustainably, controlling the supply chain, developing rice trademark and apply technology in this sector.

Many stressed unpredictable changes in global trade, especially rice trade, as rice is a sensitive commodity with high requirements on food safety and environmental protection.

President and CEO of Vietjet, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, has been honored as one of the two winners of the ASEAN Entrepreneurs Award 2018 for her significant contributions in bolstering economic and trade exchanges between the Republic of Korea (RoK) and ASEAN.

The awarding ceremony was co-organised by ASEAN – Korea Centre and Maekjung Media Group, one of the most influential media groups in the RoK, held in Seoul, the RoK, under the framework of the World Knowledge Forum.

Binh Duong hosts 10th WTA University Presidents' Forum

The 10th World Technopolis Association (WTA) University Presidents' Forum kicked off in the southern province of Binh Duong on October 11.

The event offered a platform for heads of universities to meet and discuss measures to increase role of universities in research and development, thus bolstering academic and industrial cooperation and setting up start-up ecosystem.

At the forum, member universities of the WTA signed cooperation documents to promote the development of localities.

Vietnamese student wins third prize at international UPU contest

Nguyen Thi Bach Duong, a student of Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Nam Sach district, Hai Duong province, has been awarded third prize in the 47th Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter-Writing Contest.

The 47th Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter-Writing Contest, themed “Imagine you are a letter travelling through time. What message do you wish to convey to your readers?", attracted millions of entrees from UPU member countries around the world.

With the incarnation of Santa Claus to convey the message of children's rights, Nguyen Thi Bach Duong continued to outshine 60 letters from young people from other countries around the world, taking third prize – a Bronze medal for Vietnam.

Vietnam wins 40 medals, ranking 12th at Asian Para Games

Vietnam bagged a total of 40 medals, including eight gold, eight silver and 24 bronze medals, ranking 12th at the 2018 Asian Para Games which took place from October 6-13 in Indonesia.

The Vietnamese delegation comprised 75 members, including 52 athletes and 11 coaches and caretakers. They competed in seven out of 18 sports, namely swimming, track and field, weightlifting, chess, badminton, table tennis and judo.

Except for judo, athletes in six other sports brought home medals. Notably, all four weightlifters won medals, including two golds, one silver and one bronze. In addition, Vietnamese swimmers pocketed four gold, four silver and 13 bronze medals. Swimmer Vo Thanh Tung broke an Asian record and two records of the Games.
