Deputy PM and FM Minh attends related meetings of AMM-51

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the 19th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the eighth East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the 25th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Singapore on August 4.

The meetings took place within the framework of the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-51) that officially opened in Singapore on August 2, with the participation of foreign ministers from the ten member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

President reiterates Vietnam’s policy against nuclear weapons

Vietnam has always been consistent in its anti-nuclear weapons policy and was one of the first countries to support, sign and ratify the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), President Tran Dai Quang wrote in his greeting message to the 63rd World Conference against Atomic & Hydrogen Bombs on July 31.

In his message, President Quang expressed his deep gratitude for the effective assistance that the Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs has provided for Vietnam in the cause of national liberation, reunification, building and development.

Vietnam’s position in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) in 2018 rose 25 levels compared to two years ago, jumping to the 39th among 160 surveyed countries, according to the latest report from the World Bank (WB).

This is the best result of Vietnam since 2007 when the WB announced the ranking for the first time. Representatives from the Ministry of Transport attributed the result to the improvement of the two indicators of “Logistics Competence” (up 29 levels) and “Tracking and Tracing” (up 41 levels).

Vietnam takes lead in PMI rankings

Vietnam has maintained its lead in the ASEAN PMI rankings, according to the latest survey from Nikkei’s IHS Markit revealed on August 1.

Vietnam maintained its lead in the ASEAN Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rankings, registering another solid improvement in its goods-producing sector in July, the latest survey from Nikkei’s IHS Markit revealed on August 1.

According to the survey, Vietnam’s PMI – a composite single-figure indicator of manufacturing performance – was 54.9 in July, down marginally from 55.7 in June but still one of the highest since the survey began in March 2011. Business conditions have been strengthened in each of the past 32 months.

Indochina children attend summer camp in Ho Chi Minh City

The 5th Children’s Cultural Exchange Programme Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia 2018 opened in Ho Chi Minh City under the theme “Circle of Friendship” on July 31.

Hosted by the municipal Youth Union, the summer camp attracted the participation of 205 children and 41 officials in charge of the children and youth's work from Cambodia and Laos, as well as those from Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnamese localities bordering the two neighbouring nations.

Vietnamese students win prizes at Asia Pacific Arts Festival

Three Vietnamese students won big prizes at the 6th Asia Pacific Arts Festival, which recently concluded in Singapore.

Accordingly, Dang Khanh Linh and Dao Diem Quynh won two gold medals, while Pham Yen Nhi secured a silver medal. In the show, Dang Khanh Linh performed “Panis Angelicus”, whilst Pham Yen Nhi and Dao Diem Quynh sung “Amor Preparami” and “O Sole Mio”, respectively. They were all appreciated by the jury board.

Van Hau scores a brilliant goal, Vietnam crown champions at U23 international tournament

The only goal by Doan Van Hau (C) helps Vietnam win the U23 International Championship - Vinaphone Cup 2018 title.

A superb goal from defender Doan Van Hau in the 89th minute helped Vietnam beat Oman 1-0 in the ongoing U23 International Championship - Vinaphone Cup 2018 tournament in Hanoi on August 5.

The second consecutive victory also helps the team win the trophy with one game in hand as Vietnam take the lead with 6 points after two matches, followed by Palestine U23 with 3 points after the team defeated Uzbekistan U23 2-1 in an early match on August 5.

Vietnamese women claim silver at Asian Nations Cup chess event

The exceptional form of Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung fired the Vietnam women’s team to the overall silver medal of the standard event at the recent 2018 Asian Nations Cup chess tournament in Hamadan, Iran.

It was the best result that the Vietnamese women have achieved in this arena since 2009, when Thao Nguyen, Mai Hung, and Nguyen Thi Thanh An excelled to bring home the overall title for the country.
