PM visits Singapore and attends ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong discussed measures to capitalise on the opportunities brought about by the CPTPP and agreed to maintain trustful and close political ties during their talks.

At the ASEAN Summit, the Vietnamese leader stated that promoting innovation will stimulate the group’s resilience, particularly economic resilience.

Vietnam marks Reunification Day

A wide range of activities were held throughout the country to mark the 43rd anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the municipal leaders paid tribute to fallen soldiers at monuments and temples across the city, while meetings were also held to honour the contributions of veterans and heroic mothers, and exhibitions were organised to commemorate the event.

Party chief urges greater anti-corruption efforts

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption to instruct the competent agencies to double their efforts to ensure the progress of the investigation, prosecution and judgment of serious corruption cases.
He said that fighting corruption is a highly difficult task, requiring an absolute sense of justice.

Vietnam’s trade surplus reaches US$3.39 billion in four months

Vietnam posted a trade surplus of approximately US$700 million for April this year, raising the total trade surplus over the first four months of the year to US$3.39 billion.

Export revenues were estimated at US$73.76 billion during the period, while imports were US$70.37 billion, official figures released by the General Department of Customs showed.

Hue Festival 2018 kicks off with firework show

A special art performance and a firework display opened the Hue Festival 2018 at Ngo Mon (Noon Gate) Square in Hue imperial city on April 27 night.

As many as 24 art troupes from 19 countries and territories worldwide have registered to take part in the festival, promising to entertain spectators with hundreds of art programmes, organisers of the Hue Festival stated.

2018 National Tourism Year opens in Quang Ninh

A grand ceremony heralded the National Tourism Year 2018 and the Ha Long Carnival in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh on April 28.

Around 100 events will be held throughout the year, with more than 50 in Quang Ninh alone, with the promise that the activities will provide impressive and interesting experience for visitors.
