Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee open 40th meeting

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith co-chaired the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee in Vientiane on February 5th.

They also witnessed the signing of 12 bilateral cooperation documents agreed between the two parties.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Phuc met with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith, and Chairwoman of the country’s National Assembly Pany Yathotou.

Vietnam attends ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting in Singapore

A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Singapore.

Deputy Prime Minister Minh gave a speech at the event, stressing that regional resilience should be promoted in both political and economic aspects, thereby creating a new impetus for ASEAN to transition to a new development phase.

Nearly 660 foreign investors receive trading codes in January

The Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD) granted some 659 trading codes to foreign investors, including 58 institutions and 601 individuals, in January.

The VSD has also approved the modification of information for 40 foreign investors, cancelling three trading codes for foreign investors.

Art show welcomes overseas Vietnamese returning for Tet

The 2018 ‘Xuan Que Huong’ (Homeland Spring) Festival was held on February 7th to welcome overseas Vietnamese (OVs) who have returned home to enjoy the Lunar New Year (Tet), drawing the presence of President Tran Dai Quang.

Ninety OVs arrived from 25 countries and territories worldwide, representing the 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese who are living in 109 foreign nations and territories.

Activities to bring a happy Tet for disadvantaged

A wide range of activities have been underway across the country to support policy beneficiaries, workers, and poor people on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The Party and State leaders have visited and presented Tet gifts to disadvantaged people nationwide, while trade union organisations and local authorities have provided free coaches for thousands of migrant workers travelling back to their hometowns.

Vietnam wins first gold at Asian cycling event

Vietnam’s No.1 cyclist Nguyen Thi That won the gold medal in the women’s 106km road race at the Asian Road and Para Cycling Championship in Myanmar on February 11.

On February 8, her junior male teammate, Huynh Minh Nghia, took home a bronze medal in the 22km time trial event.

Da Nang city among world’s 10 best places to live

Da Nang city has been chosen by the international tourism magazine Live and Invest Overseas (LIO) as one of the top 10 best places in the world for foreigners to live in 2018.

Da Nang city is the only Vietnamese destination on the list.
