NDO – The northern mountainous province of Cao Bang held an international conference on May 8 to discuss measures for its sustainable tourism development through the promotion of the UNESCO Global Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark

The event featured the participation of 500 domestic and foreign delegates, including experts, researchers, speakers and managers of global geoparks from Europe, Africa, America and Asia.

Many delegates emphasised that in order to promote sustainable tourism development through the global geoparks, managers should set out strategies to raise public knowledge of Non Nuoc Cao Bang geopark as well as to enhance the communication of its values.

In addition, it is crucial to create favourable conditions for local people to join and benefit from tourism development through the global geopark.

Chairman of the UNESCO’s Global Geoparks Council Guy Martini said that global geoparks are open museums of geological, heritage, cultural and natural values. He also emphasised the necessity to raise public awareness on preserving and promoting the geoparks.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Cao Bang provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Thao noted that Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark has significantly contributed to building the province’s tourism brand as well as the locality’s socio-economic development.
