Nhan Dan Online – Nearly 130 kite making artisans have flocked to Vung Tau city to participate in the Vietnam Kite Festival, which opened on December 7.

The competitors, bringing to the event nearly 200 colourful kites, come from 19 kite clubs from cities and provinces across the country, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue and Hai Phong cities; Nam Dinh, Quang Nam and Dong Nai provinces.

The artisans show and fly their kites in six categories, including single line kite, a group of single-line kites, autopilot kite, Rokkaku kite (traditional six-sided Japanese fighter kite), flute-kite, and kite flying team.

In April 2014, Vung Tau will play host again to the artisans with the upcoming International Kite Festival where the best kites will be selected on performance.

The event is held to honour the art of kite making, a unique feature of Vietnamese culture, whilst promoting the Vietnamese pastime of kite flying via visitors attracted to the event.
