Nhan Dan – Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air were honoured for their significant contributions to national tourism at the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2012, in Hanoi on December 4, taking prizes for the airline carrying the most tourists and the most dynamic airline respectively.

This year, awards went to top ten international travel agencies bringing tourists to Vietnam, top ten travel agencies taking tourists abroad, top ten domestic travel agencies, top ten five-star hotels, top ten four-star hotels and the top ten three-star hotels.

The awards aim to encourage businesses to improve their performance, enhancing their ability to compete internationally.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), 2012 is the first year the national strategy on developing tourism to 2020, with a vision to 2030, has been successfully implemented. Despite the impacts felt from the global economic slowdown, the country’s tourism industry continues to see growth, contributing about 5.2% to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

This is the fourteenth consecutive year the awards have been presented. Traditionally, the awards honour travel agencies, hotels and hospitality service providers. Last year, prizes were given for the first time to the two best resorts since they were initiated by the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA) and the VNAT in 1998.
