NDO – A new V.League season is about to kickstart next month, promising a fierce title race between the 14 participating teams. Let’s take a look at some of the domestic strikers who are much awaited for the upcoming 2020 season.

Nguyen Cong Phuong (Ho Chi Minh City FC)

Forward Nguyen Cong Phuong is the most anticipated name for the 2020 V.League season. After an unsuccessful season while playing abroad, the Nghe An-born player has officially returned home and is playing for V.League runners-up Ho Chi Minh City FC. With his brilliant dribbling skills and excellent shooting ability, Cong Phuong will be a perfect addition for Chung Hae-seong’s side.

Before being loaned out to Belgium team Sint-Truidense, Cong Phuong had a thriving season in Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s jersey contributing 16 goals (12 goals in the V.League and four in the National Cup). Fans are expecting CP10 to find his rhythm again and contribute to the success of HCM City as well as to the national team.

Nguyen Tien Linh (Becamex Binh Duong)

The Becamex Binh Duong forward has emerged as a replacement for veteran Nguyen Anh Duc at the club as well as for the national team. The 1997-born player possesses great heading ability, and operates on a wide scope lashing in lightning shots from the penalty box. 2018 V.League was the most successful season for Tinh Linh as he scored 15 goals while becoming the top domestic scorer in the league.

After his success earning a 30th SEA Games gold medal, Vietnamese fans and Binh Duong supporters in particular are pinning their hopes on the goal-hunting ability of the 23-year-old striker in the upcoming 2020 V.League. If Tien Linh continues to play explosively, a place in the national team will hardly escape from his reach.

Nguyen Van Quyet (Hanoi FC)

Van Quyet has been proving his influence at Hanoi FC. Despite suffering many injuries and suspensions, he still managed to produce an impressive scoring tally of nine goals in the 2019 V.League season. In addition, the 28-year-old striker blasted four goals in the National Cup, seven in the AFC Cup and two in the AFC Champions League.

Undoubtedly, with his abundant experience, Van Quyet will remain a key hope for the capital city team in the lead up to defending their double of domestic titles (V.League and National Cup) in the 2020 season.

Nguyen Van Toan (Hoang Anh Gia Lai)

Following the departure of Cong Phuong, Van Toan became a mainstay and a leader for Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s attacking line in 2019 V.League. The Hai Duong-born forward has proved his ability by scoring many important goals. Last season, Van Toan scored a total of nine goals.

In 2020 V.League, amid the chaos caused by the departure and arrivals of so many players, the 24-year-old forward is expected to remain a pillar helping Hoang Anh Gia Lai achieve a higher ranking in the table. His rapid speed and good shooting skills are the strongest points of Van Toan.

Ha Duc Chinh (SHB Da Nang)

Leaving behind an underwhelming 2019 V.League, Ha Duc Chinh exploded at the 30th SEA Games scoring several important goals to contribute significantly to Vietnam’s historic men’s football gold medal. With Do Merlo leaving the club, Duc Chinh now becomes the hope for SHB Da Nang in 2020 V.League.

Excellent heading ability is a strong point of the player who learnt his trade from the PVF Football Academy. Duc Chinh gas proven very dangerous when operating in the opponent’s half with an excellent first-touch. From what he has shown so far, the 23-year-old will be one of the most anticipated domestic forwards in this year’s V.League season.
