Tien Minh advances to world championships semifinals

Nhan Dan – Top Vietnamese shuttler Nguyen Tien Minh edged out Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen (world no. 10) 2-1 yesterday to make the semifinals of the 2013 World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, China.

Tien Minh played confidently and continuously scored with his strong smashes to finish the first set with 21-8 victory.

Jorgensen competed fiercely, bagging a 21-17 win in the second set of the match. However, with his experience and bravery, the pride of Vietnamese badminton beat his opponent 22-20 in a tense third set to progress into the semifinal round. 

Winning a ticket to the semifinals marks the furthest that Nguyen Tien Minh has advanced at the world championships for many years. Minh’s semifinal opponent will be four-time world champion Lin Dan of China.
