Coach Park Hang-seo’s side settled for a 0-0 draw with the UAE in their opener on Friday and they will next face Jordan, who are sitting atop their group after beating DPR Korea the same day.

The result left Vietnam third in the standings and the reigning runners-up must now beat the group’s leaders on Monday to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

“Jordan are tough opponents and they have fast and strong players. However, Vietnam will try to collect the full three points,” Viet Hung told reporters, as quoted from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF)’s website.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC’s midfielder did not play in Vietnam’s previous match but he is still a key player under Park. Viet Hung himself is determined to work hard on the field to be ready to play at any time. “Personnel selection for the squad is decided by the coach. If I can play, I will try my best to complete the set tasks,” Viet Hung said.

Regarding the remaining two matches of Vietnam in Group D, Viet Hung said the whole team is focused to work hard towards the best results. After the stalemate draw against UAE, coach Park also encouraged the team to try to do better to meet the expectations of the fans, he revealed.

The team were back to training on Saturday morning right after the clash with UAE. Coach Park divided the squad into two groups, with those playing against UAE only having light rehabilitation at the hotel with the help of the medical team, while the remaining players practiced on the field, focusing on speed, power and tactics.

Right-back Ho Tan Tai is ready for the match against Jordan following his suspension in the opening game against UAE.

Coach Park always has solutions to ensure all of his players are ready to play with high performance if required.

The Korean strategist also announced that the media will not be allowed to attend the team’s training session on January 12. He wants his players to have the highest concentration before the upcoming important match against Jordan. Following the draw with UAE, Vietnam are forced to win against Jordan if they want to progress to the knockout phase.

There will also be no pre-match press brief for the second matchday of the group stage, meaning that all information about the preparation of Vietnam and Jordan has been blocked.

The caution from both teams is also understandable as Vietnam are two points behind their next opponents, while Jordan also struggled against DPR Korea in their opener. Both teams need beneficial results in the race for the top two positions in Group D.

The match between Vietnam and Jordan in Group D’s second matchday will take place at 8.15 pm on January 13 at Chang Arena in Buriram, Thailand.
