NDO – Defender Le Ngoc Bao said on January 8 that Vietnam U23s have prepared thoroughly for their opening clash at the 2020 AFC U23 Championships, affirming that the Golden Stars will deliver a good display against the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“The UAE U23s players are very fast and skillful. The coaching staff have already shown us how to address their strengths and exploit their weaknesses,” Bao told reporters ahead of Vietnam’s Wednesday training session in Buriram, Thailand.

The 22-year-old defender is now expected to be the factor that ensures safety for the left corridor of Vietnam U23s, after it was confirmed that Doan Van Hau, who is playing for Dutch team SC Heerenveen, will not be able to join Vietnam’s continental campaign.

“Two-thirds of the current Vietnam squad are new players compared to that in Changzhou, China, two years ago. However, we also practised and played together a lot, so this shouldn't be a problem. Currently, the whole team is ready for the UAE clash,” he stated.

Responding to the UAE coach’s comment that psychology is the strongest weapon of Vietnam U23s, Bao said: “In addition to the psychological power, we also possess outstanding individuals, and are confident to play well against UAE U23s.”

The Group D opener between Vietnam U23s and UAE U23s is set to take place at Buriram Stadium in Buriram, Thailand, on January 10.

Hosts Thailand delivered a dreamy start to their AFC U23 campaign by thrashing Bahrain 5-0 in their Group A opening clash on January 8, while Australia and Iraq played out a 1-1 draw in the remaining Group A fixture.
