NDO – Currently, members of Vietnam’s U23 team no longer mention the continental runner-up finish that Park Hang-seo’s side achieved two years ago in Changzhou, China, defender Huynh Tan Sinh told reporters ahead of their training session in Buriram, Thailand, on January 6.

Vietnam U23s arrived in Buriram on Monday to make final preparations for their first two Group D matches, against the United Arab Emirates (Jan 10) and Jordan (Jan 13), at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

“Miracle in Changzhou is now a story of the past, and at present we are only focused on the upcoming clashes of the 2020 tournament,” Sinh said.

It is undeniable that Vietnam U23s will participate in this year’s championship with a completely different position compared to the previous two years. Park’s side are even strongly expected to win a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Touching on this issue, the 22-year-old defender, however, has a very realistic view: “Our goal is to gain the best possible result in each match”.

Sharing with the media about Vietnam’s preparations for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, Sinh said: “Each of our group’s competitors pose different difficulties. For the immediate future, we are focusing on preparing for the match against the UAE. They may be efficient at ball possession, but the coaching staff has already worked out ways to deal with it and counteract the strengths of the opponents”.

During the Monday training session, Park Hang-seo spent a lot of time on strength and speed improvement exercises for the players, in addition to the tactical lessons.

This morning (Jan 7), Vietnam U23s have a technical meeting with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and will return to training in the afternoon.
