NDO – Vietnam coach Park Hang-seo named his 23-man squad for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship at the end of their last training session in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 5.

Accordingly, the Republic of Korea tactician eliminated two players, forward Tran Danh Trung and midfielder Nguyen Trong Dai. This decision came as little surprise, because in reality, the duo still need to exert much more effort to be able to compete against other teammates in the same positions.

Park’s announcement also means that Thanh Thinh, Trong Hung and Dinh Trong have fully recovered from injuries, and are now ready for the AFC U23 campaign.

This morning (Jan 6), Vietnam U23s travel to Buriram, where they will have four more days to finalise preparations before taking on the United Arab Emirates (Jan 10) and Jordan (Jan 13) in their first two Group D clashes.

On Sunday afternoon, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan visited and encouraged Park and the players before their departure, stating that he puts absolute faith in the coaching staff’s calculations for the continental playground.

“We have undergone a long process of training and accumulation in terms of expertise. In addition, we have achieved fantastic results over recent times, so you need to have confidence in your capabilities.

“At the 2016 AFC U19 Championship, we defeated the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and tied with UAE in the group stage, and then finished off Bahrain in the quarterfinals to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup for the first time in history. We will meet the DPRK and the UAE again in the upcoming AFC U23 group stage. Tough as the journey may be, what I want you to keep in mind is that nothing is impossible,” the VFF official said.

Tuan encouraged the Vietnam U23s members to exert great effort and fight confidently to achieve the best results in Thailand, thus affirming the position of Vietnamese football and living up to expectations from home fans.
