Dortmund squander two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Leipzig

Borussia Dortmund squandered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig on Tuesday as a series of errors caused the Ruhr valley club to lose their grip on the game.

Dortmund, who led 2-0 and 3-2, had only themselves to blame as they failed to close the gap to the top, staying four points behind Leipzig in third place. Leipzig stay top on 34 points, with second-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach, who host bottom club Paderborn on Wednesday, on 31. Dortmund are third on 30 while champions Bayern Munich are in fifth on 27 and travel to Freiburg on Wednesday.

* Christine Sinclair, who is two goals shy of breaking the women's international all-time scoring record, was named Canada's soccer player of the decade on Tuesday. Sinclair, who helped Canada to bronze medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, has scored 183 times in 289 appearances for her country and sits one goal away from equalling American Abby Wambach's record of 184.

* Aston Villa beat Liverpool's youngest-ever side 5-0 with a double by Jonathan Kodjia helping them into the League Cup semi-finals on a strange night at Villa Park on Tuesday. With Premier League leaders Liverpool playing in FIFA's Club World Cup 24 hours later in Doha, they fielded a starting lineup consisting mainly of reserves and youth team players with an average age of 19.4, a club record.

* Darts history was made at the PDC World Championship when Fallon Sherrock became the first woman to win a match at the prestigious event, stunning Ted Evetts 3-2 at London's Alexandra Palace on Tuesday. The 25-year-old trailed 2-1 but hit back to seal victory, landing six 180s with a 91.12 average.

* Charlotte became Major League Soccer's (MLS) newest team on Tuesday as the rapidly-expanding league added a 30th franchise who will begin playing in 2021.

* Former Netherlands striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will be going to next year's European Championship after Dutch coach Ronald Koeman added two more assistants to his staff for the tournament. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player, now 43, was named along with Under-19 coach Maarten Stekelenburg to replace Kees van Wonderen, who recently left the squad.

* Schalke 04 goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel has been suspended for four games and fined for a brutal kung-fu style foul on Eintracht Frankfurt's Mijat Gacinovic that earned him a straight red card, the German Football Association said on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Germany youth international and Schalke captain charged out of his goal and tried to kick the ball away, but with his leg at full stretch he crashed into the chest of the Frankfurt midfielder in the match on Sunday.

* St Etienne have been ordered to play their Ligue 1 matches behind closed doors until further notice for "wide use of fireworks" in the stands during Sunday's home defeat by Paris St Germain, the French Football League said. The home supporters set off flares and fireworks at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard as PSG forward Kylian Mbappe fired home an 89th-minute goal in a 4-0 win for the visitors.

* Former Arsenal striker and Danish international Niklas Bendtner said on Tuesday he was considering hanging up his boots for good after FC Copenhagen ruled out extending his four-month contract. Bendtner has scored only one goal in 17 matches.

* Members of the Japan team who won the 2011 Women's World Cup will start the Japan leg of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch relay, organisers said on Tuesday. More details of the route were revealed along with the approximately 10,000 people who will carry the Olympic flame as it tours all Japan’s 47 prefectures ahead of the Games opening ceremony in July.

* The Indonesian squad for the upcoming 2020 ASEAN Para Games was sanguine to defend its overall lead in medal rankings during the Games in the Philippines next month, the National Paralympic Committee said on Tuesday. Indonesia has set a target to secure at least 100 gold medals during the 10th ASEAN Para Games, which is slated to take place from January 18 to 25, 2020, said the committee's Vice Secretary Rima Ferdianto.
