Vietnam pockets 11th gold medal in athletics

NDO – Nguyen Thi Oanh claimed the 11th gold medal for Vietnamese athletics at the 30th SEA Games following her victory in the women’s 5,000m race on the morning of December 10.

Oanh finished first with a time of 16:45.98, 6.37 seconds faster than teammate Pham Thi Hue, who took the silver, and 1:06.19 clear of the bronze medalist, Gagnao Joida of the Philippines.

This is the second individual gold that Oanh has won thus far in this year’s SEA Games, after her 1,500m title previously.

Swimmer Tran Tan Trieu earned Vietnam a second gold this morning by winning the men’s 10km open water final with a time of one hour, 53 minutes and 31 seconds. Meanwhile, Nguyen Huy Hoang finished second in the event to bring home an additional silver for Vietnam.

Together with the victories of athletics and swimming, Vietnam also won two more silvers in volleyball (women’s team) and sepak takraw (women’s regu).

As of 11.30 on Tuesday, the Vietnam sports delegation remained in third place in the SEA Games medal table with 81 golds, three behind Thailand and 59 fewer than the Philippines.
