Vietnam ranked third at 2019 World Taekwondo World Cup Poomsae Championships

NDO – The Vietnam Taekwondo team collected a total of four gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals to rank 3rd at the 2019 World Taekwondo World Cup Poomsae Championships, which wrapped up in Wuxi, China on August 23.

On Friday afternoon, key competitors like Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, Nguyen Thi Le Kim and Hua Van Huy competed in eight freestyle poomsae events and won three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Competing with strong rivals from around the world, Vietnamese martial artists excelled to win two gold in both men’s and women’s individual freestyle poomsae over 17 categories, thanks to Nguyen Dinh Khoi and Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, respectively.

Quynh then joined her teammates Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thien Phung, Hua Van Huy and Le Thanh Trung to bag another gold in the over 17 mixed team freestyle poomsae.

Earlier, in the opening day on August 22, Vietnamese athletes started competing in 15 recognised poomsae events and won a gold, seven silver and six bronze medals, in which the only gold medal belonged to Hanoi martial artist Pham Quoc Viet in the men’s junior category for individual recognised poomsae.

Hosted by the World Taekwondo, the World Cup Poomsae Championships featured 286 athletes from ten countries. Vietnam sent 31 martial artists to the event in China, competing in freestyle and recognised poomsae events in individual, pair and team categories.

The World Cup Poomsae Championships will be followed by the World Cup Team Championships from August 23 to 25. This is the first time the two events have been held simultaneously, both hosted at the Taihu International Expo Centre in the Chinese city of Wuxi.
