Addressing the event, Que Dinh Nguyen, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper and head of the steering committee for the tournament, stated that the championship takes place as Vietnamese table tennis is flourishing, with a generation of young players increasingly affirming their talent on the regional and international arenas.

The tournament offers an ideal platform for the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation to discover and select qualified players for national teams, towards the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines and some other international competitions in 2019, he said.

In the solemn atmosphere of the opening ceremony, national team player Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh and chief umpire Nguyen Tien Hung took oaths of respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
