Atletico Madrid delayed Barcelona’s La Liga title celebrations by beating Valencia 3-2 at home in an entertaining game on Wednesday at a sparsely attended Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Defeat for Atletico would have seen Barca clinch an eighth title in 11 years, but the victory moved Diego Simeone’s side on to 71 points after 34 games, nine points behind the Catalans.

* Formula One and local organisers have given up on plans to hold a race in downtown Miami because of the disruption for businesses and residents, the Miami Herald reported on Wednesday.

* Manchester City's Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho will have a scan on a knee injury he suffered against Manchester United on Wednesday ahead of the final three games of the Premier League season. * Derby County boss Frank Lampard has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA) following his confrontation with the referee in last Friday's 2-2 draw with Birmingham City in the second-tier Championship, the FA said on Wednesday.

* Clubs in the top two divisions of Spanish football have overwhelmingly voted against plans by the Spanish football federation (RFEF) to shake up the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga's organising body said on Wednesday. The changes to the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey must be approved by the RFEF's general assembly next Monday.

* Newcastle United playmaker Miguel Almiron will miss the last three games of the season due to a hamstring injury, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

* Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been charged with misconduct for his behaviour during Monday's 2-2 Premier League draw with Burnley, the English Football Association said. The Chelsea coach was sent to the stands by referee Kevin Friend after becoming embroiled in a scuffle amongst players on the touchline in the dying moments of the game at Stamford Bridge.

* Turin's Pala Alpitour stadium has been selected to host the ATP Finals from 2021-2025 replacing London, the governing body of men's tennis said on Wednesday.

* Rio Olympic champion Deng Wei won the women's 64kg category by breaking three world records in five attempts at the Asian Weightlifting Championships here on Wednesday. She broke her word when she snatched 115kg for a new world record by two kilos, then Deng had her solo show, hoisting an ambitious 142kg above her head steadily for a total of 257kg, breaking two world records in jerk and total by one kilo and three kilos respectively.

* Chinese badminton super star Lin Dan claimed a straight-set win over Lu Chia Hung from Chinese Taipei in the 2019 Asian Badminton Championships in Wuhan on Wednesday. Crowned as the treble winner of the Championships, Lin showed no mercy to his opponent in each set, with an overwhelming score of 21-12 in the first set and 21-17 in the second.

* The Indonesian Motor Association announced on Wednesday that it will hold motor race championships later this year in an effort to foster young racers across the country.
