NDO – Song Lam Nghe An finished off former champions SHB Da Nang with two unanswered goals in the early meeting of the 2019 V.League match day 6 on April 19 to move up to second place in the table, level on 13 points with leaders Ho Chi Minh City who have played one game fewer.

With their home-field advantage, SHB Da Nang were expected to clinch the full three points to improve their position in the standings. However, manager Le Huynh Duc’s side was troubled by the guests’ sharp counter-attacking style.

Song Lam Nghe An threatened to score in the opening minutes as Olaha stole the ball and drove a shot off the post.

After such a careless situation, SHB Da Nang played with greater precaution, creating a number of chances to open the scoring. Seconds before half time, naturalised forward Do Merlo produced a cunning header that unexpectedly hit the crossbar.

After the break, the host team proactively increased the pressure on the away goal seeking for an opener. Within just four minutes, Nghe An keeper Nguyen Manh was forced to make two brilliant saves after A Mit’s attempts.

Failing to capitalise on their opportunities, Le Huynh Duc’s troops had to pay dearly eight minutes after the hour mark. Taking a through ball from Quang Tinh, Olaha placed the ball into the far bottom corner from a tight angle to put Song Lam Nghe An in front.

After the unexpected goal, SHB Da Nang pushed hard for an equaliser, but faced difficulties in breaking past Nghe An’s solid defence. They were even forced to concede the second goal just one minute from over time, as Quang Tinh made use of a mistake by Da Nang’s centre back Manh Hung to shoot past keeper Van Bieu to seal a two-star win for the away side.

The convincing 2-0 triumph lifted Song Lam Nghe An to second in the V.League table with 13 points, while SHB Da Nang are in ninth place with just six points after six matches.
