NDO – More than 90 riders will compete in the 2019 Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) Cycling Tournament from April 13 to 30, as announced by the HTV at a press conference held in the southern city on April 4.

The annual event is among various activities to celebrate the 129th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890-2019), the 50th anniversary of the realisation of the President’s testament (1969-2019) and the 44th anniversary of the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2019).

A total of 13 leading teams nationwide will be racing through 16 stages stretching 2,000 kilometres, starting from Vinh city, Nghe An province – the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh – on April 13 and finishing in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30. Each team will consist of seven cyclists, including one foreigner.

This year’s race offers more than VND1 billion (US$43,000) up for grabs, with the overall yellow jersey winner receiving VND150 million (US$6,450). The first-place team will be awarded VND80 million (US$3,440) in prize money, while the stage winners will claim VND20 million (US$860) each.

The organising committee will organise cultural activities in service of local people during each stage. In addition, charity programmes are scheduled to support needy students and disadvantaged people in Vinh city (Nghe An province), Hue city (Thua Thien Hue) and Pleiku city (Gia Lai).
