Egypt will host the 2019 African Nations Cup finals, the Confederation of African Football confirmed after a meeting of their executive committee in Dakar on Tuesday.

They will stage the expanded 24-team event in June-July after initial hosts Cameroon were stripped of the tournament last month over concerns at the slow pace of preparations.

* Sporting Gijon's English forward Nick Blackman came off the bench to score the winner as the Spanish second-tier side beat floundering Valencia 2-1 in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last 16 tie on Tuesday.

* Barcelona will capture 19-year-old French central defender Jean-Clair Todibo of Toulouse on a free transfer at the end of this season, the La Liga leaders said on Tuesday. Todibo, who broke into Toulouse's first team at the start of this season and has made 10 starts in Ligue 1, will join up with compatriots Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet, also central defenders, as well as forward Ousmane Dembele.

* Veteran Portugal defender Pepe has returned to Porto after signing a two-and-a-half year deal, the Portuguese champions said on Tuesday. The rugged defender, who will be reunited at Porto with former Real Madrid team mate Iker Casillas, joined Besiktas in 2017 but rescinded his contract with the Turkish club last month.

* Stoke City have sacked manager Gary Rowett with immediate effect after eight months in charge, the English Championship (second-tier) club announced on Tuesday. The decision comes from the Stoke hierarchy after a run of one win in six matches across all competitions.

* All the Paris Saint-Germain first team players and the club's business managers will travel to Doha on Sunday to take part in the traditional winter tour in Qatar, the Ligue 1 club announced on Tuesday.

* World number two Angelique Kerber began her title defence at the Sydney International with a 7-6(3) 6-2 victory over Italian Camila Giorgi to reach the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

* Egypt striker Mohamed Salah was voted as the African Footballer of the Year for the second successive year at the Confederation of African Football’s awards ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday. Salah beat fellow nominees, Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
