Over 300 cyclists participate in Coupe de Hue Cycle Race 2019

NDO – The 2019 Coupe de Hue International Cycle Race officially opened at a ceremony held at Phu Van Lau relic site, in Hue City, the central province of Thua Thien – Hue, on September 20.

The race attracted the participation of over 300 cyclists, including over 150 foreigners from 24 countries around the world.

In particular, the tournament brought together famous faces in the international cycling world such as Javier Sarad (Spain), Chris Butler (the US) and Cadel Evans – former champion in the 1998 and 1999 world moutain cycling races and the Tour de France in 2007 and 2011.

In the first challenge race, the cyclists will have to pass a mountain with a length of 15.2km, a height of 1,260 m above sea level, and an average slope of 8.3%.

In addition, the second race, passing through Hue city and A Luoi District, will consist of two categories: Gran Fondo and Half Fondo.

In the Gran Fondo event, with a roadmap of 150km and total height of 1,800m, after the warm-up from Phu Van Lau to the junction of National Highway 49, the athletes will officially enter the race to A Luoi District’s square. The cyclists will then conquer Ta Luong, Kim Quy and A Co passes and turn to finish at Phu Van Lau.

In the Half Fondo event, the racers will start from National Highway 49 and race to Binh Dien Commune, Huong Tra Town to return to Phu Van Lau.

A wide range of activities will be held within the framework of the tournament, such as boat racing on Huong River with the participation of over 300 athletes, a standing-up paddle board race attracting 150 racers, a show of old vespa motorbikes, and an exchange programme with racer Cadel Evans.

The tournament will run until September 22.
