Ha Thanh claims second gold at Osijek World Challenge Cup

Ha Thanh wraps up the four-day competition with two gold and one bronze medal.

Nhan Dan Online – Top Vietnamese female gymnast, Phan Thi Ha Thanh proved her exceptional form at the ART World Challenge Cup 2014 in the Croatian city of Osijek with a second gold medal on the balance beam recorded on April 27, the final day of competition.

Thanh was the surprise winner in a discipline which was never her strength. She edged past seven other competitors with an impressive score of 14.025, eclipsing runner-up Kim Un Hyang from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (13.850 points) and Swiss bronze medallist, Giulia Steingruber (13.550 points).

Thanh also managed to snatch the bronze in the floor exercise with 13.425 points, behind Giulia Steingruber (13.675 points) and Canada’s Isabela Onyshko (13.575 points).

Earlier on April 27, Thanh had won her first gold on vault, scoring 14.525 points, beating strong opponents from across the world, especially 2013 European champion, Giulia Steingruber.

The Vietnam gymnastics team plans to compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland from July 23 to August 3 before heading to Incheon, Republic of Korea for the 17th Asian Games in September.
