Activities celebrate 127th birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh

NDO – A range of activities have been held both at home and abroad to celebrate the 127th anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh’s birth (May 19, 1890-2017).

On the evening of May 19, a ceremony was held at Vo Nguyen Giap Square in Thai Nguyen City located in the northern province of Thai Nguyen to mark 70 years since Uncle Ho and the resistant Party Central Committee and Government arrived at the Dinh Hoa Safety Zone (ATK) to set up a resistant base against the French colonialists (May 20, 1947-2017).

Delivering his speech at the event, Vu Hong Bac, Chairman of Thai Nguyen People's Committee reviewed historical events on May 20, 1947 when Uncle Ho arrived at Dinh Hoa ATK to lead the resistance war. Here, many important decisions concerning the destiny of the nation have been made. Particularly, on December 6, 1953, when the Politburo decided to launch the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, resulting in an earth-shattering victory that ended the nine years of hard-fought resistance.

Speaking at the event, Politburo member and National Assembly Deputy Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said that the ceremony aimed to remember the glorious history and increase the pride in the people involved during the war against the French colonialists, as well as adding more faith and determination to promote these traditions during the new revolutionary period.

She urged Thai Nguyen to promote dynamic spirit, innovation and creativity, focusing on implementing solutions to improve productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness, as well as creating a new environment and motivation for development.

Earlier the same day, Ho Chi Minh City authorities offered incense to President Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Museum-Ho Chi Minh City Branch. On this occasion, the Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee honoured 162 collectives and 240 individuals who have positively implemented the Politburo's Directive No. 05 on promoting the study and following of President Ho Chi Minh’s ideals, morality and style.

A range of publishing houses have introduced a series of books related to President Ho Chi Minh’s life and career, as well as stories about the study and following of his ideas, ethics and style.

On May 19, Hau Giang Province authorities offered flowers to Uncle Ho at his temple in Luong Tam Commune, Long My District. On this occasion, the province started work on preserving, renovating and restoring the relic on the area of more than 35,000 m2.

The same event was also held in the northern Lang Son Province yesterday.

On May 19, a special exhibition themed "Truong Son - The Legendary Trail" opened in the central province of Quang Nam, introducing over 120 images, artifacts and precious materials on the Truong Son-Ho Chi Minh Trail. Also on display are pictures showing memorable events with General Vo Nguyen Giap and other commanders of Division 559 in Road 9 - South of Laos Campaign and the moment in which Sai Gon was liberated. The exhibition will be open until May 24.

On the morning of May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in France offered incense to Uncle Ho in the cities of Paris and Montreuil. Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Hoa Binh, who is on a visit to Paris, joined the event with Montreuil authorities, French friends and the overseas Vietnamese community in the host country. On this occasion, Binh expressed his sincere thanks to local authorities and the people, as well as officers from local museums for their work in preserving artifacts about President Ho Chi Minh in France.

Similar ceremonies were also held in Russia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Mexico.

From May 19-25, a photography and book exhibition on Vietnam and Uncle Ho is being held at the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s campus. Within the framework of the exhibition, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico also screened films introducing the country and people of Vietnam to our Mexican friends.

On the occasion of the 127th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, Argentinian media published biographical abstracts praising Uncle Ho's ideas and contributions to the revolutionary cause of national liberation.
