NDO - More than 69 million Vietnamese citizens are casting their votes to elect representatives to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2016-2020 term.

Voters will elect 500 National Assembly deputies from 870 candidates, more than 3,900 provincial councillors, nearly 25,000 district councillors and over 294,000 commune councillors, according to the National Electoral Council.

Polling stations opened at 7 am and will close at 7 pm this evening. With regards to local conditions, polls can open earlier but not before 5 am and close no later than 9 pm.

In some remote constituencies such as border and island areas, voting took place before the official election day of May 22.

After the voting is completed, election results must be submitted to the National Electoral Council within 20 days so that elected candidates can be assessed and reported to the first plenary meeting of the new National Assembly.
