Preparations for NA, People’s Council elections in Can Tho, Quang Ninh inspected

NDO – A delegation from the National Assembly Standing Committee and the National Election Council led by NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu inspected preparations for the upcoming election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils in the southern city of Can Tho on May 18.

According to the city’s election committee, 13 candidates are running for seats in the NA, 513 others are running for seats in People’s Councils at the district level, and 3,900 for the communal People’s Councils.

The city has organised communication campaigns to disseminate information on the overall meaning and importance of the elections, as well as the right to stand for election, the electoral rights of citizens, and the basic content of the Law on Organisation of the NA, the Law on Organisation of the Local Governments and the Law on Elections of Deputies to the NA and People’s Councils.

NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu spoke highly of Can Tho’s positive preparations for the elections, urging the city to review and inspect application papers of candidates to ensure democracy and guarantee the best conditions for the elections to take place in a safe and democratic manner and in line with regulations and laws.

The same day, Vice President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Van Pha examined preparations for the elections in Uong Bi city, the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Speaking highly of the city’s preparation efforts, the official asked Uong Bi to step up efforts to ensure security and order, before, during and after the Election Day, while continuing to handle petitions and complaints raised by the public.

The election of deputies to the 14th NA and all-level People’s Councils of the 2016-2021 tenure will convene on May 22 - a Sunday as in accordance with the law.
