Preparations for general election completed

NDO - Preparations for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2016-2020 tenure are nearly complete.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan made the affirmation while speaking to the press on May 17, announcing that localities across the country are ready for the Election Day, slated for May 22.

The VFF President, who is also Vice Chairman of the National Election Council (NEC), said that the NEC has promulgated documents instructing localities on preparations for the election as well as addressing arising issues in the work.

Inspection delegations have been sent to 63 cities and localities nationwide to ensure that the preparations are being conducted in line with the law and progressing smoothly.

Candidates have been provided with favourable conditions to meet with voters so that they can present their action programmes equally.

Regarding the VFF’s role in organising candidate-voter meetings, he said the VFF has worked closely with People’s Committees to examine the delivery of promises by candidates, which have been recorded during the meetings and the media.

The same day, the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism kicked off an open-air exhibition entitled ‘The Festive Day of the Whole People’ at Ly Thai To Flower Garden.

The six-day exhibition displays nearly 200 photos recounting elections of deputies to the NA and People's Councils at all levels, including documentary pictures on President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam's first elections.

The photos also highlight the country’s achievements in perfecting mechanisms and apparatus, as well as the capital’s development.
