Officials examine preparations for election nationwide

NDO – Politburo members Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Nguyen Thien Nhan and Tong Thi Phong worked with relevant agencies in Hai Duong province, Ho Chi Minh City and Bac Can province respectively on April 23 to examine local preparations for the upcoming election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils.

After hearing Hai Duong province’s report on preparations for the election, Politburo member Ngan, who is also Chair of the NA and the National Electoral Council (NEC), valued the locality’s performance and reminded the province to list voters and form nominees’ profiles as regulated; announce the candidate list on schedule; enhance communication on the election and ensure equality and transparency in communication about the candidates; as well as address any compliants made in regards to candidates.

Hai Duong province has 13 candidates running for 9 NA deputy positions, 104 candidates running for 65 deputy of provincial People’s Council positions, 723 candidates running for 434 deputies of district-level People’s Councils and 11,701 candidates running for 6,680 deputies of communal People’s Councils. There are no independent candidates in the province.

During a meeting with Ho Chi Minh City’s Election Council, Politburo member Nhan, who is also President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Vice Chairman of the NEC, praised the city’s significant preparations carried out with high responsibility and creativeness. He reminded the city to work with relevant units to inform and mobilise voters to conduct themselves in accordance with their rights and responsibilities whilst taking part in the election as the city has a diverse population, which includes different religious groups, immigrant workers and students.

The official suggested the council should have in-place and practise a back-up plan for the election, enhance communication on the election, hold meetings between candidates with voters to help voters make the best selections for their representatives, and review preparations at all levels to address any arising matters.

Ho Chi Minh City has 36 candidates running for 30 NA deputy positions, 175 candidates running for 105 deputy positions of the municipal People’s Council, 1,568 candidates running for 943 deputies of district-level People’s Councils and 15,599 candidates running for 9,355 deputies of communal People’s Councils.

On the same day, Politburo member Phong, who is also NA Vice Chair and Permanent Vice Chair of the NEC, worked with leaders of the northern province of Bac Can to inspect local preparations for the election.

She praised the local preparations and asked the province to enhance examinations over preparations at the grassroots levels, particularly in regards to the list of candidates, resolving complaints and denunciations and boosting communication about the election.

Bac Can province finalised eight candidates running for NA deputies, 84 candidates for deputies of provincial People’s Council, 407 candidates for deputies of district-level People’s Councils and 4,704 candidates fro deputies of communal People’s Councils.
