NDO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc commended the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union for its role in the national joint efforts to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak at a meeting with the organisation’s leaders on March 25.

He said that in the past three months, members of the youth union have been the pioneers in various preventive activities such as installing stations for passers-by to wash their hands and distributing free face masks.

At the same time, medical students have volunteered to join the front line while young service members have taken a pioneering role in supporting the thousands of people in quarantine.

According to the PM, the tasks of the Youth Union will be huge in the time ahead, especially with the emergence of non-traditional issues such as climate change and diseases.

He stated that the Covid-19 outbreak is making a major impact on Vietnam, with many companies forced to shrink or close their business, leading to many employers losing their jobs, including young people.

Therefore he urged the youth to demonstrate their will and capability by re-organising their work and study so that they are well-prepared for post-outbreak recovery.

The head of government also asked the Youth Union members to take a greater role in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak, implementing effective measures so as to minimise its damage.
