Tree-planting festival launched in localities nationwide

NDO – The 2020 tree-planting festival was launched in various localities across the country on January 30.

On January 30, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the tree-planting festival in Viet Cuong commune, Tran Yen district in the northern province of Yen Bai.

The tree-planting launching ceremony saw the participation of more than 1,000 locals who planted trees on an area of approximately of 1.2ha.

All localities in Yen Bai province simultaneously held ceremonies to celebrate to the tree-planting festival on January 30 which is expected to plant at least 520ha of forest.

At the launching ceremony, PM Phuc called on local people in Yen Bai province and other localities nationwide to respond to the tree-planting festival. He noted that tree-planting is a practical event that will contribute to increasing the country’s forest cover rate to 42% in 2020 and turn Vietnam into a leading country ofproduction and export of plantation timber.

*On the same day, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinhlaunched the tree-planting festival at the Hung Temple relic site in Phu Tho province.

Addressing the ceremony, the Vice President said that the tree-planting festival has become a great occasion forVietnamese people during Tet holiday, contributing toenvironmental protection and the socio-economic development of the country.

She emphasised that tree-planting and forest protection have become more important amid the acute effects of climate change.

*The tree-planting festival was also launched by local authorities in Quang Binh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Nghe An on January 30.
