Vietnamese overseas in Mozambique and Japan celebrate Lunar New Year

NDO – Both the Vietnamese Embassies in Mozambique and Japan held gatherings for their overseas Vietnamese communities on January 10 to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival 2020.

Speaking at the get together in the capital city of Maputo, Mozambique, Ambassador Le Huy Hoang conveyed the Tet greetings from the Party and State leaders to the entire Vietnamese community in the East African country.

Informing participants on Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements in the last year, the diplomat said that relations between Vietnam and the host country have witnessed substantial progress in the fields of investment, telecommunications and trade, contributing to strengthening the multi-faceted relationship between the two countries.

Praising the efforts by the community in Mozambique, Ambassador Hoang affirmed the continuous support of the Party, State and the Embassy to the Vietnamese community in the host country.

He urged overseas Vietnamese to uphold solidarity and mutual support to integrate and make practical contributions to the relations between the two countries.

The Maputo event featured various art performances and traditional Tet dishes, offering an opportunity for expatriates to meet, encourage each other and celebrate Tet together.

On the same day, a similar event was also held in Japan for the Vietnamese overseas community there to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Rat (2020).

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Vu Hong Nam summarised the socio-economic development achievements that Vietnam achieved in 2019, affirming that relations between Vietnam and Japan are continuing to develop strongly.

Praising the great contributions of overseas Vietnamese in Japan to the national socio-economic development, Ambassador Nam also called on them to continue to unite and support each other in building a strong Vietnamese community in Japan and to actively support the movements on developing and defending their home country.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan awarded certificates of merit to collectives and individuals who have contributed greatly to the activities of the Vietnamese community in Japan.
