Awards presented to honour green building and green architecture

NDO – Winners of the SPEC Go Green International Awards 2019, the sixth of its kind, were honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 8.

The awards are co-organised by the Vietnam Association of Architects under the sponsor SPEC of 4 Oranges Company. It is open to young architects aged under 40 from all over Asia, and students of architecture currently studying at any schools of architecture in all Asian countries.

It aims to encourage designs for green building and green architecture, as well as projects that make significant contributions to the socio-economic development, while raising entrants’ responsibility for environment and sustainable development.

This year’s event received 154 entries from both Vietnamese and foreign contestants.

According to Dr Nirmal Kishnan, Chief Editor of the FuturArc Journal, the entries have suggested new solutions and approaches to protect natural resources and the ecological environment.

In the category for young architects, the first prize went to a group of three architects from India for their “Etania Green School” project for homeless children, while the second prize was won by a group of six architects from Vietnam for their “Hidden Spa” project. One third, two fourth, and one community prizes were also presented in the category.

Meanwhile, “Symbiotic Canal” project by Luu Thao Nguyen and Le Thuy Ngan, two students from the Hanoi of Architectural University bagged the first prize in the category for students of architecture. The organising board also delivered one second, one third, two fourth, and one community prizes in the category.
