Oil portrait of Park Hang-seo fetches VND278 million at charity auction

NDO - An oil painting of Park Hang-seo, who has coached Vietnamese football to phenomenal success over the past two years, has been sold for VND278 million (over US$12,000) to a businessman named Nguyen Phan Huy Khoi.

The portrait, painted by 33-year-old Tran The Vinh, was first auctioned to Swisstouches La Luna Resort Nha Trang for US$10,500 a year ago.

However the hospitality company later decided not to keep the painting for itself .Instead they put it up for another auction to raise money for charity and also to express the admiration sentiments of Vietnamese football fans to the Korean coach.

In addition to VND278 million offered at the auction on December 30, the new owner of the painting has additionally donated more than VND220 million so that a total of VND500 million (nearly US$21,700) will go to a charity fund managed by the state broadcaster VTV.

The 73x92 cm oil painting, entitled “My Coach”, depicts the Korean manager placing his right hand on the left side of his chest.

Since taking the helm of the Vietnamese men football team in late 2017, Park has led Vietnam to win the Southeast Asian championship in 2018, the gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games and surpass expectations and garner many achievements at Asian tournaments.
