NDO - Vietnam is one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets with an average growth rate of 17% over the past decade, even higher than other countries in the Asia – Pacific region, according to a recent report of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Passenger traffic in Vietnam has attracted many major airlines in the region and the world, as well as budget airlines.

In its Tourism Annual Report 2018, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said that the opening of new routes, the increase of flight frequency, and improvements of aviation infrastructure have all made significant contributions to the sharp rise in the number of air passengers.

Approximately 106 million passengers visited Vietnam through airports in 2018, an increase of 12.9% from the previous year.

Nearly 130 air routes are being operated by domestic and 68 foreign airlines, connecting Vietnam’s major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Hai Phong, with 28 countries and territories worldwide.

In the first half of 2019, Thailand reported remarkable growth with 245,000 holidaymakers visiting Vietnam, up 45.5%, and was among the top 10 markets for visitor numbers.

Many direct flights linking Vietnam and Thailand have been launched, contributing to the strong growth in exchanges of visitors between the two countries.

In addition to transporting passengers, domestic airlines have positively coordinated with the VNAT and travel businesses in order to work out more products, promote Vietnam’s destinations and tourism in key markets such as Northeast Asia, ASEAN, Europe and Australia.
