Conference seeks way to improve women affairs in Mekong Delta

NDO - The Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation held a conference in the southern city of Bac Lieu on July 15 to review the one-year implementation of the Secretariat's Directive No.21 on continuing to improve women's affairs in society.

The conference was co-chaired by Politburo member Truong Thi Mai who is also Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation; Truong Thi Mai; and members of the Party Central Committee: Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union, and Nguyen Quang Duong, Secretary of the Bac Lieu provincial Party Committee.

According to Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, provincial and municipal Party Committees in the Mekong Delta region has promoted information dissemination to raise awareness and responsibilities of the committees, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organisations for women's affairs; integrate indicators on gender equality and women's work into local programmes and plans; as well as effectively implement activities to support the comprehensive development for women.

Participants of the conference discussed difficulties as well as proposed solutions to promote women's work in accordance with the actual situation in localities.

Speaking at the conference, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai asked local authorities to continue to devise more specific measures to effectively implement Directive No.21.

More attention should also be paid to improve the performance in gender equality, particularly the rate of women participating in leadership and management positions in both public and private sectors, she noted.
