France’s National Day marked in Ho Chi Minh City

NDO – The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) and the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-France Friendship Association (VFFA-HCMC) co-organised a get-together to celebrate the 230th anniversary of France’s National Day (July 14, 1789-2019), on July 11.

Addressing the event, Vincent Floreani, Consul-General of France in Ho Chi Minh City, said that France has a cooperative relationship with many countries in the world, including a good friendship with Vietnam. In the past year, the two countries have had many important foreign activities, helping to tighten the relationship.

Currently, the French community in Vietnam is very populated, most concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City. The two sides have had many cooperation projects in the fields of economy, culture and education, the Consul-General said.

In 2018, the number of Vietnamese students going to France increased by over 40%, while French students coming to Vietnam are also on the increasing. In addition, the two sides also organised many activities on the occasion of the International Francophone Day that demonstates the strong friendship between the two countries.

Congratulating to officials and employees of the Consulate General of France in Vietnam and the French community in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, President of the VFFA-HCMC, said the friendship, cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and France continues to grow.

Nowadays, France has 252 investment projects in the city, with a total value of more than US$261 million. Ho Chi Minh City and the cities of Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes region (France) have implemented many cooperation projects such as urban planning, training staff, and implementing art lighting projects.

In addition, French non-governmental organisations have been participating in the implementation of programmes, projects on social development, environment, education, agriculture, health and HIV / AIDS prevention in Ho Chi Minh City.

President of the VFFA-HCMC Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, expressed her hope the VFFA-HCMC will continue to receive the cooperation of the Consulate General of France in Vietnam and the French community, French non-governmental organisations in Ho Chi Minh City, to implementing many meaningful programmes, thereby further promoting the good friendship between the two countries.
