Action month for drug control and prevention launched

NDO – A meeting in response to the action month for drug control and prevention 2019 took place in Nghe An on June 23.

The event saw the attendance of representatives from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Vietnam National Committee for Prevention and Control of AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution, and leaders of different ministries.

The event was also in response to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, said the Government selected “Thinking before Starting” as the theme of the action month this year.

He requested ministries, sectors and localities focus on improving their anti-drug work and increasing communications campaigns targeting young people.

He also asked for information to be spread far and wide on the harmful consequences of taking drugs, particularly different kinds of methamphetamine, to continue raise public awareness about the issue.

The Ministry of Public Security was asked to guide relevant forces to speed up investigations and crack down on drug trafficking rings, and strictly punish those who sell and encourage the use of drugs via the internet and social networks.
