Work starts on Dong Hai 1 wind power plant in Bac Lieu

NDO – A ground-breaking ceremony was held on April 15 to start the construction of the first phase of the Dong Hai 1 wind power plant in Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province.

According to Mai Trong Thinh, Director of Bac Phuong Joint Stock Company- the project’s investor, the wind power plant covers an area of more than 935 hectares of water surface and over 11 hectares on land in Long Dien commune with a total designed capacity of 50 MW.

The VND 2.49 trillion (US$107.2 million) project includes the construction of 12 turbines, a transformer substation, an 110kV line, an operations centre, workers’ accommodation, and other supporting facilities.

Once it is completed and put into operation by 2021, the plant is expected to generate 161.02 million kWh per year to the national grid.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Vuong Phuong Nam said that the construction of the project will help to develop clean energy in Bac Lieu, which is viewed as one of the local authorities’ priorities for development.
