HCM City to set off fireworks in three venues to mark 44 years of southern liberation

The Landmark 81 Building will be one of the two venues for high-altitude fireworks in celebration of the 44th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day and the 133th anniversary of May Day.

NDO – The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has made plans to organise a host of practical entertainment and celebration activities for the 44th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2019) and the 133th anniversary of May Day (May 1, 1886-2019).

Specifically, from 9-9.15pm on April 30, HCM City will set off fireworks across three venues, including two displaying high-altitude fireworks – at the beginning of the Saigon River Tunnel (District 2) and the Landmark 81 Building (Binh Thanh district) – and one displaying low-altitude fireworks – Dam Sen Cultural Park (District 6).

Earlier, on April 26, the municipal authorities will offer incense at various martyrs’ cemeteries across the city and at the memorial house dedicated to Heroic Vietnamese Mother and Hero of the People’s Armed Force Nguyen Thi Ranh in Cu Chi district’s Phuoc Hiep commune. On the same day, HCM City officials will also offer incense and flowers to late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Ton Duc Thang at the Ho Chi Minh Museum – HCM City branch, the Ton Duc Thang Museum and the President Ho Chi Minh Statue Park.

On the occasion, photo exhibitions will be held along the streets of Nguyen Hue and Dong Khoi and at the Labour Cultural Palace (District 1) on April 26, in addition to a grand art programme celebrating the two holidays in the evening.

In order to create a festive atmosphere during the holidays, HCM City will organise the 43rd HCM City Open Traditional Marathon Tournament along Le Duan Street, a traditional boat race tournament on Rach Dia canal, an orchid festival (April 27 to May 1) at Tao Dan Park, and the 31st HCM City Television Cycling Tournament.
