Former NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuc Thanh passes away

NDO - Former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly and Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Phuc Thanh passed away at the Central Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi on February 8, due to serious illness.

The information was released in an announcement by the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee (CPVCC), the National Assembly (NA), Chairwoman of the NA, the Government of Vietnam, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.

The announcement stated that comrade Nguyen Phu Thanh passed away at the Central Military Hospital 108 at 12:15 on February 8, after a period of severe illness, despite the efforts from his doctors andfamily.

Nguyen Phuc Thanh was born on June 25, 1944, in Khai Thai commune, Phu Xuyen district, Ha Tay province (now Hanoi city). He held permanent residence at No. 38, Lane 9, Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, Dien Bien ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.

He participated in revolutionary activities in 1964 and was admitted to the Party on February 8, 1966. Nguyen Phuc Thand served as a member of the CPVCC's 8th and 9th tenure, former Vice Chairman of the NA, former Chairman of the 10th and 11th NA Committee for National Defence and Security, and NA deputie of the 10th and 11th tenure.

Over 50 years joining revolutionary activities, the comrade made significant contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was presented with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, the Ho Chi Minh Order, the first-class Feat-of-Arms Order, the insignia of 50-year Party membership, and many other noble medals and orders.

A State funeral will be held for Nguyen Phuc Thanh to pay tribute to the comrade and acknowledge his contributions, the announcement said.

The Secretariat has decided to establish a State Funeral Organising Board of 23 members, to beheaded by Tong Thi Phong, Politburo member and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the NA.

Nguyen Phuc Thanh will be laid in state at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. The respect-paying ceremony will be held from 8:00 - 11:00 am on February 20, at the National Funeral Hall.

The memorial service and burial ceremony will take place at the cemetery in the hometown of Vinh Thuong village, Khai Thai commune, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi.
