NDO – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on December 21 to honour 163 outstanding elderly and heads of villages from 45 ethnic minority groups in 35 cities and provinces nationwide.

The event was jointly held by the Communist Review, the Government Committee for Ethnic Affairs, and the Border Guard High Command.

Addressing the event, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat, Tran Quoc Vuong, praised the ethnic minority figures as outstanding individuals who have a deep understanding of indigenous knowledge and have a key role in consolidating solidarity in their community, as well as preserving traditional cultural values, and maintaining national frontiers.

The elders and heads of villages were also appreciated for connecting the Party and people, and for working side by side with their fellow villagers in living a better life.

He expressed his hope that the delegates would continue promoting their exemplary role in encouraging people to protect national border security, build rural areas, and eliminate backward customs in their living areas.

Since the security situation in border areas and sea regions remains complicated, Politburo member Vuong asked the functional ministries, sectors and armed forces to work closely with elderly villagers and village leaders to tighten the solidarity bloc in the community.
