NDO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc awarded the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title to the Liberation Radio Station on September 7, on the occasion of the 73rd founding anniversary of the national radio broadcaster Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

Following the establishment of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (NLF) in 1960, the Party Central Committee ordered the VOV to establish a radio station as the NLF’s official broadcaster.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Phuc praised the Liberation Radio Station as a righteous voice that encouraged the Vietnamese compatriots and soldiers to go forward in the resistance war and undermined the morale of the enemy.

The radio station was an effective attacking force on the information and diplomacy front, contributing to the total victory of the struggle for national independence and reunification, he added.

The Liberation Radio Station was dissolved in 1976 after the reunification of Vietnam and its staff were dispatched to the VOV and other local radio stations.

On the occasion, the government leader expressed his expectation that the VOV would strive to become the country’s leading multimedia agency.

PM Phuc also visited the VOV’s Traffic Channel and sent his regards to listeners and road users through the radio waves.

For his part, VOV General Director Nguyen The Ky promised to build on the radio broadcaster’s glorious tradition in order to make the VOV grow stronger in the future.
